Personal Development and Wellbeing
Personal Development Curriculum – Clandon School
At Clandon School, personal development is at the heart of our inclusive and nurturing ethos. We are committed to developing confident, respectful and resilient pupils who feel safe, valued and able to succeed, both in school and in the wider world.
Our personal development curriculum is underpinned by Jigsaw PSHE and RSHE, which provides a progressive, age-appropriate framework for learning about emotional wellbeing, relationships, physical health, safety, and life in modern Britain. Through Jigsaw, pupils develop self-awareness, empathy, emotional regulation and an understanding of healthy relationships.
Personal development is further strengthened through our nurture provision, which supports pupils who experience barriers to learning, social interaction or emotional regulation. Bespoke nurture sessions, supported lunchtimes, and trusted adult relationships help pupils to build self-esteem, resilience, positive behaviour and social skills. This ensures that children are ready to learn and able to participate fully in school life.
We promote positive behaviour and wellbeing through clear expectations, restorative approaches and a focus on relationships. Pupils are taught to understand their emotions, make safe choices and treat others with kindness and respect, creating a calm and supportive learning environment.
Beyond the classroom, pupils are given opportunities to develop confidence, responsibility and a sense of belonging through Forest School, enrichment activities, clubs and leadership roles such as School Council. These experiences encourage teamwork, independence, creativity and an understanding of community.
Throughout all aspects of school life, we prioritise mental health, inclusion and pupil voice, ensuring that every child feels heard, supported and prepared for the next stage of their education.
