    Supporting Behaviour

Our Approach to Behaviour at Clandon School

At Clandon School, we believe that children learn best in a calm, happy and supportive environment.  Our approach to behaviour is rooted in kindness, respect and clear expectations, helping every child feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

At the heart of our behaviour approach is The Clandon Way – a simple set of values that guide how we treat one another every day.

    The Clandon Way

    Be proud.
    Be respectful.
    Kindness every day.

These three values shape daily life at Clandon and reflect our core Christian value of kindness.  They help children understand what positive behaviour looks like in the classroom, on the playground and beyond.

Through The Clandon Way, we encourage children to:

    • take pride in their behaviour, learning and achievements

    • show respect to others, to themselves and to their school

    • act with kindness, empathy and consideration every day

These values are taught explicitly, modelled by adults and celebrated across the school community.

Positive Relationships at the Heart of School Life

Strong relationships between children and adults are central to our approach.  When children feel known and supported, they are more confident, settled and able to make positive choices.

Adults take time to listen to children, help them reflect on their actions and support them to repair friendships when things go wrong.

    Clear Expectations and Calm Boundaries

Children thrive when expectations are clear and consistent.  Our routines and behaviour expectations are taught carefully and reinforced across the school, creating a calm and predictable environment.

When behaviour does not meet expectations, adults respond calmly and fairly, helping children understand their choices and learn how to do better next time.

    Encouraging Independence and Responsibility

As children grow, we support them to develop independence, self-control and responsibility.  Through everyday school life, children learn to:

    • manage their behaviour and emotions

    • understand the impact of their actions on others

    • take responsibility for their choices

Positive behaviour, effort and kindness are recognised and celebrated.

    Working in Partnership with Parents

We value strong partnerships with parents and carers and believe that children do best when home and school work together.  We aim to communicate openly and work collaboratively to support children’s wellbeing and behaviour.

A Happy and Caring School Community

The Clandon Way underpins a welcoming school culture where children feel included, confident and proud to belong.  By combining warmth with high expectations and a clear set of values, we help children grow into kind, respectful and responsible young people.
